Okay, I really really want to like her. Her elf face and eyes make me want to cry. And the music is so beautiful, and lyrically she is a humdinger! (riverrunriverunriverun) I feel very good looking at her because she looks like one of these:

which is really wonderful and every time I see her I think of the movie, which reminds me of my childhood and making forts and it's really warm and delightful and nice.

But the VOICE! The FUCKING VOICE!

"PEACH PLUM PEAR!!"
Me: "HAIR SKULL BLOOD!"

I wish I had a mute knob for horsey whinny sounds on the computer, then I would listen to her all the time. Sorry Bryan. I've been trying all this time. I give up.

Actually, music is just dumb! I quit music. I'm gonna work on my poker skills, instead.

The voice sounds better on a lo-fi system. She's imitating the work of some 1930's singer, so you've got to have that scratched record hiss in the background.

i actually found one song of hers that's good..."Crab cockle cock face" or whatever. I can see how that would sound great on a 45.

Don't be such a pussy. My housemate listens to a goddamn Coco Rosie album every day for hours and hours. I have given up counting the frickin' whinnying horsey sounds and yodelling screeching whines of those gals. And if they sang nice lyrics about Fruits or Sprouts and Beans I would die, but luckily they sing about how the whole world should be white and what child molestation is like and other messed up stuff.

my hate for coco rosie is more of the watery kind. pretty wishy-washy. i feel sorry that your housemate plays this music.

I UNDERSTAND. "Inflammatory Writ" is the only song of hers that I can stand. All the things that grate on me about her vox are somehow really endearing and stunning in that song. When she sings/warbles "one bedraggled GHOST of a sonnet", I get leg goosebumps. Everytime.

The wonderful thing about art is that you don't have to like everything. There's always something else waiting to embrace you.

But if it's really bothering you, try listening to Ys, her new album, it seems to be a little bit more traditionally melodic to me while still retaining her lyrical and musical GENIUS.

(Genius in my opinion. Oh God.)
